Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.

Anniversary Balloon Ride
It has always been Dan's ambition to take a Balloon Ride. Mission accomplished. This was his surprise for me.

Anniversay Update
I know many of you thought that our 25th Anniversary would be a big affair since we eloped and only had a small quiet wedding. I always thought we would someday make it up to you. Sorry. DW & I have an unbreakable bond between us that doesn't require special fanfare because we know what truely exists between us. I sometimes think that we were two opposites that have united in friendship and love. Someone once said to me that "DW is the one with the ideas and Vicki is the one that makes sure they get done." I am not sure that is entirely true but I do know that we have been able to accomplish more together than we ever would have accomplished on our own. We motivate each other. Our different personalities, (his highs and lows vs my calm, quietness & his negative outlook vs my positive view)definitely have added spice. But we both still long for our "together time." Therefore, instead of a big reception to honor our 25th Anniversary, we are taking a private, but exciting Alaskan cruise to celebrate. We will leave on the 26th of July and return on the 6th of August. Yes, it was his idea and my implementation. I have lined up a number of shore excursions including dog-sledding, glacier hiking, whale watching and more. Complete with the "Soapy Smith" story (whatever that is). So Happy Anniversay to us and thanks to all of our family who have helped us to make it this far.

June 13, 2009
I am working today. It's a little boring right now because we have had to turn down several flights for bad weather. I always try to bring stuff to do for these times. At least I won't have to spend my HOME time doing them. The Fire Dept payroll is still left to do but I will have it done by the time my 24 hour shift is over. Dan is hopefully helping some friends move. That is what he is supposed to be doing anyway, but we all know how he gets sidetracked sometimes so I can't guarantee that is actually happening. He promised to work on his to do list. I will be so happy if he can get some of it done though. I will update you later if I find he has done anything more exciting than me. Don't get your hopes up though.

Romance Story #3
Dan has always done his share to keep our romance alive. One night I came home from work at midnight. The house was quiet but I found that it was fairly clean. (This in itself is unusual.) A note was on the table saying "meet me upstairs." As I began to climb the stairs I found a rose on the first step. The next step there was a hostess ding dong. The step after that had another rose, and then another hostess ding dong. This continued all the way upstairs. At the top I found a trail of rose petals to our room and a dozen roses in the room with Dan in our bed and the rest of the chocolate ding dongs. He had fallen asleep waiting for me though. Such a sweet guy! It was so touching that I never told him until years later that I never did like Hostess Ding Dongs until that night. It's amazing how your tastes can change when they are associated with a good memory!
June Arrives
I think we are officially into summer now. Once again my schedule is full. June is the busy season in my field. I have multiple shifts with both jobs, and some overtime with first aid station at steamboat days. Also need to attend a Fire conference, and am teaching several required classes so others can keep their certifications. All this while still keeping the homefront running. It is nice the kids are grown so it isn't quite as bad as it used to be. Plus this year Dan is helping more around the house. Hopefully he doesn't wear out because I only have 1 free day this month. DW has a lot of stuff on the "to do" list left from last summer still. Today he is working on protecting our strawberries from the birds though. The little scoundrels are eating the ripened ones. This is also our 25th anniversay month. It seems like just yesterday we were married. We are currently making plans for a second honeymoon in July.

May 2, 2009
Just an update for everyone. My pottery class has ended. Below are some of the neat things I did. One of the things I made was a gravy bowl. Since DW tends to have a negative outlook on everything he keeps telling me to make a pot so we can always say that we do have a "pot to piss in." I, however, like to think more positively so I made a gravy boat for when our ship comes in.
I also have been working on my garden and Mom's garden too. DW has been helping some. Mostly, he has managed to keep up for the most part on the mowing. Today was my first picking of strawberries. They are doing quite nicely.
